February 23, 2012 --The Sales Tax Increase is up for discussion and will not be voted on until November. Additionally, Consolidation/Deconsolidation is rumored to be floating about...Did we not just vote against de-consolidation? What part of NO do they not understand?

Dear Tea Party of Lafayette Members,
Thank you so much for your continued involvement with the TEA Party of Lafayette. As you know, the tea parties across this nation have begun to effect real change in the way our government operates. Although, we are not always successful in our targeted goals, it is clearly evident that the tea parties are making a difference. Just listen to the news media...sometimes the comments are positive and, more often, they are negative, but the TEA party movement is front and center in the news.
One thing is for sure, the "SLEEPING GIANT IS AWAKENED!" Many thanks to those of you who have so diligently made phone calls, emailed LCG Council Member, members of congress and worked in phone banks and walked neighborhoods for our endorsed candidates.YOUR EFFORTS ARE MAKEING A DIFFERENCE.
The TEA Party of Lafayette, as well as other conservative groups, know that we are "Taxed enough already!" and that we need to bring about smaller and less intrusive government and make laws and write bills that are constitutional. Those are our goals...and we will continue working on them in 2012.
COMING IN 2012...
.Jan 3rd - LCG Council Meeting @ 5:30. TPL Endorsed Council members William Theroit and Jared Bellard, along with newly elected Andy Naquin, will be seated at this meeting. this will be Andy's first meeting...so we want to be there in support of these conservative council members. We will be inviting the Lafayette School Board as well as others involved in education. Let's see if we can make a positive difference.
Our December Newsletter was chock full of information about the issues that TPL was successfully involved in 2011. It is on our homepage...and if you have not had the time to read it, please do so now! And giver yourself a big pat on the back for a job well-done.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO TPL MEMBERS, PATRIOTS & FRIENDS!!!
The Core Committee thanks all of you for your involvement and continued engagement throughout the past two years. Because of your passionate response to the issues and in working in the campaigns of our endorsed candidates we have been successful in effecting changes within our local and state government and in electing more conservatives to public office.
This is TPL's list of success achieved with your help over the past two years!!!
1. AKV TIF-District - November 2010 - Removed from LCG Council Agenda. This TIF-District would have taxed businesses along Ambassador Caffery Kaliste Saloom, and Verot School Road. Shopping at Albertson's for groceries would have increased your cost. TPL was very instrumental in getting this TIF removed from the LCG Agenda.
2. Parc Lafayette TIF-Disrict - Removed from LCG Council Agenda in March 2011. We all know that TIF-Districts are intended to be used in blighted or undeveloped areas...however, this one was located in the heart of the most expensive real estate in Lafayette...River Ranch! Go Figure!
3. HB531 - Created Lafayette Parish Redevelopment Authority. Ten members of TPL went to Baton Rouge to testify against this bill before the Senate Local and Municipals Affairs Committee. HB531 was removed from the Committee Agenda before we had to testify. This would have placed way too much power in the hands of a few...an unelected, appointed board made up of members of the LCG Council and a couple of strategically placed elected individuals. They could have declared blighted property and created TIF-Districts throughout the parish. Do you think our showing up had anything to do with HB531 being removed??? We do!!!
4. HB566 - ULL-TIF-District - This came right on the heels of HB531 and would have created a TIF-District on ULL Campus with undefined boundaries that included the oil center. Once again, TPL Members were instrumental in getting this removed from the state agenda. The power to create the TIF-District rested within the hands of a five-member board with a vested interest.
*We worked with Rep. Robideaux and expressed our concerns and reasons for our opposition to HB531 and HB566 and he was very helpful and helped us to maneuver the system quite satisfactorily. Thank you to Rep. Robideaux!
THANK YOU TO OUR ENDORSED CANDIDATES!!!
Thank you to the TPL Members who worked in the campaigns of our endorsed candidates and thank you to the incumbents and candidates who took on the challenge to begin to change the political climate to one that is more conservative. Here are a few success stories in the elections in which we were involved.
Lafayette Consolidated Government Council
1. William Theriot -- District 9 - Reelected
2. Jared Bellard ---- District 5 - Reelected
3. Andy Naquin ----- District 6 - Elected after a hard-fought campaign.
Louisiana State Representative - District 43
1. Stuart Bishop - District 43 ....Elected/unopposed
Although Stuart was unopposed, he thanked the TEA Party of Lafayette for our early and strong endorsement and said that it provided him with support that he valued. We knew we had a good, conservative candidate with whom we would continue working with after the election..and he has agreed to continue working with us on state issues.
Louisiana State Senator - District 24
1. Senator Elbert Guillory - Defeated Don Cravins in the runoff election. We have met with and worked with Sen. Guillory throughout the 2 1/2 years that TPL has been in existence. He has spoken at our town halls and we know that we endorsed the right man for the job.
BESE
1. Holly Boffy - BESE District
When TPL was first asked to meet with and endorse Holly Boffy, we felt it was not an election in which we wanted to become involved....however, after meeting with Holly and learning how great she is we were all immediately on board. She and the other conservatives elected to BESE will definitely be making a difference in education in Louisiana.
TPL believes that we are taxed enough already...
and that the more of our money that we send to local, state or national government...the more they will spend.
We took a strong stand against these additional taxes.
1. LPSS - Proposed Property Tax -- this proposed Master Facilities Plan tax would have resulted in a dramatic increase in your property taxes. It was rejected by 69% of the voters on the October ballot. The School Board is going back to the drawing board and TPL is hosting a town hall January 26th with Executive Director Michael Tipton from Teach for America. Our goal is to be proactive in working toward better education for all children in Louisiana.
2. STAY TAX FREE!!! Voting for Amendment #1 on the November Ballot insured that no additional taxes will be levied on the sale of your real estate property. This was handily defeated!!! A big effort was put forth by the realtors as well as TPL and other conservative groups!
