The Core Committee of TEA Party of Lafayette endorses Andy Naquin for Lafayette City-Parish Council District 6 in the November 19 election.

  • We are endorsing Andy Naquin because his stated beliefs and positions demonstrate that his principles are in line with the conservative ideals of smaller and less intrusive government, cutting spending, and fewer taxes.
  • In his words, “I am a strong conservative and want to bring fiscal responsibility back to our local government!”... more

It is astounding how much we have grown in the last few weeks.  We now have 302 individuals who have indicated they will contribute $25 in April and another $25 in August to a conservative candidate for Lafayette Parish Council.

We will make our first endorsements this week, with more to come later in the Summer.  We are so pleased that so many of you continue to send in a name or two or three every day.

But we are not stopping at 302 individuals. We hope to have 350 by the time we have our fund-raising event on Thursday Evening, April 28.  And a total of at least 400 by the end of May.

So if you have a conservative friend you have not  spoken with about this effort, please do so right away!

We stand for 7 Principles of Highly Effective Conservatives.

You can remember the principles by the acronyms Debtors (DTRS) and Flag (FLG), as follows:

1. DEBT.  Lower debt for the Lafayette Consolidated Government

2. TAXES Lower taxes imposed on the taxpayers in Lafayette

3. REGULATIONS. Fewer regulations on indivuduals and businesses in Lafayette Parish.

4. SPENDING. Lower the spending of the Lafayette Consolidated Government.

5. FAMILY.  Protect the Family.

6. LIMITED GOVERNMENT.  Government should not try to solve all problems or be all things to all people.  There are valid roles in society for other institutions to be involved, such as The Family, The Church and Business.  When Government tries to do all things, this is unlimited government.  And government then encroaches on work intended for the Family, the Church, or Business.

7. GOD-GIVEN RIGHTS.  In America, we understand that we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, clearly stated in our Declaration of Independence.  This is a tremendous protection against government intrusion.  But more and more public officials want to erode these rights by teaching that rights come from Government and not God.  Our Constitution provides that no person may be deprived of Life, Liberty or Property without due process of law.  This is a recognition of God-Given rights.

We will support and endorse candidates who stand for these principles.  As of now, we only have a very few candidates who are ready to serve on the Lafayette Parish Council.  If you are interested, please get started right away.  If you have a friend who might be interested, please encourage him or her to serve our country by running for office.   We are aware of a few local Lafayette citizens who have said they might be interested in running, but have not yet declared their candidacy.  We hope they will do so soon.

Remember, one additional person makes a difference.  Please contact your friends and ask them to join in this effort.  We would like, by the end of April, to have 350 individuals willing to contribute.

Feel like the mayor and council do whatever they please? Two of us wrote an opinion column describing Charettes, a technique governments employ to do as they please on "development" projects.
